In churches all over the world, the advent season, four weeks before Christmas Day, is a time of preparation and expectation.
Like those who lived at the time of Jesus' birth, many of us feel the darkness enclosing us. Others of us long for real peace, within our world and within ourselves. Still others are dealing with all kinds of tragedies, from illness to grief, to disappointment, to fractured relationships.
We come together at this time in the expectation that our darkness will end, in anticipation that we will find the peace we long for, and in the hope that we will find strength to overcome whatever causes us sorrow and pain.
This is the message of Advent, and the culmination is in the greatest of all gifts, the Grand Miracle, when the Lord God Almighty lived among us in the form of a man and revealed a heart of love that "will not let us go."
Will you join us in this holy season, blending your hopes with our own, as we celebrate the birth of Jesus together? May God bless you and all you hold dear during these blessed days.
